Christian Science Heals

On an evening not many weeks ago, when visiting my home, I found a sister suffering from nausea, pains in the eyes, and a swollen lip. She had been in this condition all the afternoon, having returned from the Emergency Hospital in Boston at noon where the doctors had given this verdict: "As there is no head to the swelling on your lip, you must have it lanced once a day for eight or nine consecutive days." Fearful as to results from the cutting of the lip and suffering from the above-mentioned troubles, she was glad to have Christian Science treatment.

I left the house shortly and she retired for the night. At seven o'clock an absent treatment was given. No suffering was felt after a few minutes, and she fell asleep, a very marked longing for complete rest having come over her. At half past eight she was awakened for a few moments by a sister who did not know of her condition. I made another call but left the house shortly and gave another absent treatment, the conditions away from the house being more favorable to Science work. At half past ten she awoke and prepared herself to go down-stairs to appease an appetite that had made itself felt. Her meal consisted of one ear of boiled sweet corn, a couple of small sweet potatoes, two or three slices of bread, and a cup of cocoa. This change from a condition of intense suffering and nausea to great hunger took place in three and one half hours. She retired immediately and slept soundly. She states that under other conditions she had never dared to retire after eating such a meal.

There was not the least sign of a head to the swelling either on the outer or inner side of the lip, the skin being as smooth and clear as on the rest of her cheek. The swelling had reached the nose and was well up under the eye when arrested by the first treatment.
