A Canard

A STORY has gone the rounds of the newspapers to the effect that Mrs. Helen Wilmans Post of Jacksonville, Fla., who has recently been indicated by a grand jury of the United States Court for fraudulent use of the mails, has appealed to the Rev. Mary Baker G. Eddy for aid in fighting her case.

It seems needless to say that this is a canard. If such an appeal had been made it would have received no notice, for Mrs. Helen Wilmans Post is not a Christian Scientist and does not pretend to be. In public she has disclaimed it, and also through the press, notably in an interview published in the New York Evening Post of December 5, 1901. She never had any affiliation with Mrs. Eddy or the Christian Science Church or movement. There would, therefore, be no reason why Mrs. Post should appeal to Mrs. Eddy for aid, or why Mrs. Eddy should notice such an appeal. We may say furthermore, that Mrs. Eddy and her adherents have no affiliation or sympathy with Mrs. Post's system, nor do they endorse, for a moment, her methods.
