The Future Church
The Post
The church of the future will be a people's church. In form of government it will be a pure democracy and will have no written creed, for they are dry, dead husks through which the living truth is always bursting. No form or dogma will be made to do service for religion. Religion is love. Worship is service.
The church of the future must appeal to the social conscience. It is hideous that we should eat our meals in peace when our brothers are starving. It must assert man's right to heaven here. It must abolish poverty or be abolished. It must help men to have faith in God, faith that the Creator has made all things well, faith that the ills of humanity are due to indifference to truth and transgression of law, faith that the kingdom of heaven will come when men learn to be just. The church of the future must have faith in man, faith that he would rather do right than wrong, faith that freedom is his greatest need, faith that if he were not living in economic serfdom his own inborn love of truth and right would do more for him than all other agencies combined. Herbert S. Bigelow.
