Christian Science Methods

The methods of Christian Science, from the inauguration of its literature, have been unique. It never resorted to any of the usual means of advertising or pushing its publications upon the public. It never advertised its books or periodicals in any other publications. Not the slightest effort of the ordinary kind has ever been made to "boom" it. It has pursued the most conservative policy known in the propagation of a religious literature.

We include in this all genuine and authorized literature. This policy was initiated by the Rev. Mary Baker Eddy with reference to the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," as well as all her other writings, was adopted by the Publishing Society in the beginning, and has been undeviatingly adhered to ever since.

Had the customary pushing methods been followed, no doubt the sales of our Leader's works would have vastly exceeded their present aggregate, unprecedentedly great as that is. Had the Publishing Society desired merely to build up a great and paying business, on ordinary business principles and only for financial gain, there is not the slightest question that it could have reckoned its receipts by the thousands where now it reckons them by the hundreds.
