SPIRITUALIZING THOUGHT

through working for God

Early in his career a young Christian Scientist was thrown into one of the most challenging professional situations he had ever known.

A newspaper reporter, he was working for a metropolitan London news agency serving major British daily newspapers. The agency was highly aggressive. Its staff members—young English provincial journalists, South Africans, Australians, Canadians, seeking to break into the big time of Fleet Street—were highly competitive.

It was a tough, hard-drinking business. Hours were long, starting at six a.m. and covering crime stories plucked from the police radio network. Work ran through till two a.m. or three a.m. next day. Much of a reporter's time was spent on stories of violence or disaster, or on seedy topics involving the worst elements of human nature.
