"The evidence gained from Spirit"

In order to accomplish healing in Christian Science, we must find that the evidence of Spirit outweighs the testimony of the material senses. It must become apparent to us that the presence and power of God overcomes our fear of evil. When this takes place in the consciousness of the one seeking healing, the human circumstance yields to the control of divine Principle, and healing results.

Sometimes this change takes place through a simple faith. In several instances Jesus said to those whom he healed, "Thy faith hath made thee whole.''  Mark 5:34; Their confidence in him as the Saviour and in the message of Truth that he taught was enough to overcome their fears and false beliefs, But the direction of Jesus' teachings guides his followers away from dependence upon person to an understanding of the Christ as the divine evidence of God's healing power. Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook, Science and Health, "Faith, advanced to spiritual understanding, is the evidence gained from Spirit, which rebukes sin of every kind and establishes the claims of God." Science and Health, p. 23;

This "evidence gained from Spirit" is of paramount importance in the work of healing sickness and sin. And in order to realize this evidence and to become aware of the presence and power of God, we must cultivate spiritual sense. It is through spiritual sense that we recognize the Science of being and understand the spiritual forces that keep man intact as the image and likeness of God. It is through spiritual sense that we become aware of the Christ as the activity of divine Love destroying our fear, as the manifestation of Life which invigorates and empowers us, as the expression of Soul which restores and harmonizes our experience. This "evidence gained from Spirit" must outweigh the false impressions of the material senses.
