Church Dedications
The Hartford Courant November 28, 1965
First Church of Christ, Scientist, at the corner of Albany Avenue and Scarborough Street, will be dedicated today—10 years after it was built. In the Christian Science movement, churches are dedicated only when they are completely free from debt.
Christian Science in Hartford goes back to 1881 when its Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, sent two copies of her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." to the Watkinson Library of Reference. Four years later a student of Mrs. Eddy came to the city and began the practice of Christian Science healing. The next year she taught a class. . . . Interest spread and soon meetings were held in homes in the area.
