Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science,...
Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, writes in the textbook, Science and Health (p. 410) : "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love."
A trial I experienced about five years ago awakened me to the full meaning of Mrs. Eddy's words. Several officers of an organization with whom I had been associated for more than twelve years suddenly informed me that they no longer wished me to serve as the executive officer of the group. They asked for my resignation, even though they had no compelling reason nor any authority to make such a request.
I was overwhelmed by a sense of shock, resentment, and despair. Within a short time I left the organization. During the weeks that followed, I became despondent and was filled with self-pity and self-condemnation. I allowed myself to think that my usefulness on earth had come to an end, and my faith in God and man was profoundly shaken.
