After I had gone to several different churches and read various books in search of Truth, Christian Science was introduced to me by a dear friend who gave me my first copy of the textbook. Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. In spite of her advanced years, she was never sick, but was always smiling and helpful to others; and she had been active in business for over fifty years.

At one time I was told by a doctor, when I had a serious throat infection, that I must immediately have my tonsils removed. This, however, was never done, for by my study of the Bible and the textbook I was completely freed from this infection and colds. The overcoming of the smoking habit came from the desire to be better and holier, which I gained as I studied this precious Science.

Later I manifested the symptoms of a nervous breakdown. All help was refused except that of a Christian Science practitioner. I studied Mrs. Eddy's writings. In particular her messages to The Mother Church contained bountiful blessings for me. I held to this assurance from the Bible (II Tim. 1:7): "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
