"Look unto me, and be ye saved"

Medical doctors in general leave what are called the souls of their patients to clergymen, and clergymen in general leave the bodies of men and women to the doctors. It is not surprising, then, that people should entertain a dualistic sense of themselves even though it runs counter to the divine directive (Isa. 45:22), "Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else."

Interpreting this directive to mean that God, Spirit, alone is the source of health and healing, Christian Scientists are finding that Christ Jesus set the standard for spiritual healing, which takes care of the whole situation, including the body. This may seem to be a very radical step. And it is. But Jesus healed all kinds of diseases through spiritual means alone and left his example for mankind.

In "Unity of Good," Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 25): "Mind is not, cannot be, in matter. It sees, hears, feels, tastes, smells as Mind, and not as matter." A bit farther on she continues, "This lie, that Mind can be in matter,— claiming to be something beside God, denying Truth and its demonstration in Christian Science,— this lie I declare an illusion." Then she gives this encouraging statement: "This denial enlarges the human intellect by removing its evidence from sense to Soul, and from finiteness into infinity. It honors conscious human individuality by showing God as its source."
