Letters from the Field
The following reports of fruitage from sharing the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, have been selected from the many letters which were received in response to the communication of November 15, 1962, to all members of The Mother Church from The Christian Science Board of Directors.

Several weeks ago a woman called to say thank you for a note my wife and I had sent her after the passing on of her mother. She remarked that her sister was planning to commit her to a state mental institution. For many years her appearance and self-respect had seemed to deteriorate steadily. She had depended almost entirely upon medicines, had seldom been active, and had wandered about her neighborhood improperly dressed. Having failed in attempting suicide, she presented a picture of despair.
This woman accepted from us a copy of Science and Health and began reading it. In a few days she asked for Christian Science treatment and promised to give up her use of medicines—to telephone before yielding to the temptation to turn to them again. In another two or three days she threw them all away. She began to dress properly, started eating regularly, and doing useful things about the house. She accepted some secretarial work which she could do at home.
This woman's family considers the change in her to be miraculous. She is now planning to go out and work to support herself. Her sister will provide an apartment for her until she can manage it financially for herself. She has been coming alone by bus to our church services. She has bought a matching set of the Bible and our textbook and daily studies the Lesson-Sermons, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. She is continuing her consecutive reading of Science and Health. How quickly this book has shown her that God's man is normal, healthy, happy, and useful!
A friend of this woman was so impressed with her improvement that she borrowed a copy of Science and Health from the public library. A few days later she purchased a new copy.
This firsthand evidence of divine Love, God, blessing mankind through this wonderful book magnifies for me the debt of love and gratitude due our Leader, Mrs. Eddy.

Our uncle, a clergyman for over forty years, came with his wife to visit us. The morning after their arrival, our aunt (who had been talking of some longstanding physical ailments) began to ask my wife about Christian Science and how we would approach such problems. Our relatives had been recipients of a gift subscription to The Christian Science Monitor for a time. My wife spent about three hours that day answering their various questions and sharing with them some of her own healings. Opportunities for further enlightenment on the subject frequently presented themselves during the ensuing weekend.
On Sunday morning we all attended the Christian Science service. Afterward our uncle remarked, "That was a lovely service; it was dignified and deliberate, and it was worshipful." We showed them through our church and explained various aspects of our activities.
Later that day my wife inquired if our uncle had ever read Science and Health. He replied that he had read only a little of it because he had never owned a copy. We asked him if he would accept one as a gift from us, and he was delighted. On the day of their departure we presented them with a Library Edition of the book, and our aunt said: "I need it more than he does and I'll certainly study it. I have been so grateful to be able to ask questions about Christian Science." Our uncle added, "You know, most Christians don't read enough."
Since their return home we have received a letter containing this comment: "Words fail to fully express our thanks for your precious gift of the textbook, Science and Health. We are proud to possess such a valuable book. We have been reading it with great interest. On the first page of the Preface is a statement by Mrs. Eddy which stands out to us (p vii), 'Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity.' This points us to Revelation 3:20, 'Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.' "
