"It never happened!"

"It never happened!" This categorical denial of an event which to all appearances has actually happened may sound quite ridiculous to one who has not made a study of Christian Science. Yet it has been used effectively by many who have learned through this Science how to distinguish between reality and false beliefs about events.

Such a denial is not mere wishful thinking. This vehement rejection of the temptation presented by the senses to believe in an accident, a loss, an act of anger or of hatred, a mishap due to carelessness, or any other untoward turn of events is based on the understanding of God as the omnipotent and omnipresent divine Principle, which permits only good.

"How can you deny something your eyes and ears have witnessed? And why should you, anyway?" you may ask. Let us turn to the Bible for authority and see what Christ Jesus did. Of the twelve-year-old girl whom everyone knew to be dead, Jesus said (Mark 5:39), "The damsel is not dead, but sleepeth." And the result? She was immediately restored to life and health. No equivocation here to avoid the scorn and derision of the mourners; instead, a bold statement of truth.
