THE MIGHT AND GENTLENESS OF LOVE

The power of God, divine Love, is always good; it can never harm, nor can it be used for an evil purpose. Thus it is only within the protection of this power, upheld by the might and majesty of God, that men and women can find safety and peace in this and every age. He who recognizes all true power and being as of God is eternally secure, for the might of Love is innocent of all evil. In gentleness and goodness this might unfolds the glory of God. Thought imbued with innocency and purity reflects the might of Love and is forever safe and at peace.

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 514): "Understanding the control which Love held over all, Daniel felt safe in the lions' den, and Paul proved the viper to be harmless. All of God's creatures, moving in the harmony of Science, are harmless, useful, indestructible."

Daniel proved that the innocency which is born of Love is not weakness, but gentleness and might. When King Darius asked Daniel if his God had been able to deliver him from the lions, Daniel replied (Dan. 6:22), "My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me." Only spiritual power is truly innocent of any belief in violence, destruction, animal strength, or material force.
