MAN, GOD'S IMAGE, HAS NEVER FALLEN
Man, according to the teachings of Christian Science, is sinless, as is his creator, God. God's image and likeness can no more fall from perfection than can an individual's reflection in the mirror drop from its reflective position while the individual stands before the glass. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 470): "The standard of perfection was originally God and man. Has God taken down His own standard, and has man fallen?"
Man's status is fixed and eternal. No mortal happening, no belief of mortal error, can alter the nature, status, or form of the image of Spirit. Man can never become a material being and so become subject to sin, disease, or death. He can never be less than complete and perfect. The understanding and application of this basic truth destroy discord in human experience.
To believe that what God creates can deteriorate is to misjudge the Almighty. To believe that man can drop below the level of perfection is to believe also that infinite wisdom, a quality of God, can vary or drop from perfection. Man reflects the qualities of God, and not one of them can ever become material or become tainted by materiality. That which is immortal can never become mortal. That which is true can never become untrue.
