MAN, A PICTURE OF HEALTH

Man, a picture of health. What a description of man's true identity! In defining "picture," a dictionary uses three words very familiar to Christian Scientists, namely "representation," "image," and "likeness." In Christian Science one learns that God, divine Love, is the Principle of all health and that man is the representative, the image and likeness of God, as explained in the Scriptures. Spiritual man is the witness to perfect God, who is the source of complete health and harmony. This is evidenced in the saying of Christ Jesus (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."

One might ask, "Well, then, why are there so many sick people?" The answer is that so many people believe that health is material; whereas, in Christian Science, true health is a spiritual quality existing in Mind, not matter. Neither a sick nor a well mortal indicates the well-being of a spiritual idea, the real man. Perfect God cannot create a sickly, unhealthy representative.

The belief that man is born into matter and exists apart from God, that he is susceptible to the ills of the flesh, has caused mankind to suffer. This entire mortal concept is completely separate from God's idea, the man He has created. Immortal man is perfect, and mankind can demonstrate this fact as the individual casts out of human consciousness the mistaken assumption that man is less than spiritual and harmonious.
