THE IMMEDIACY OF TRUTH

On a certain occasion Christ Jesus healed a woman who had been crippled for eighteen long years. The time element involved made not the slightest difference to him, nor did the name of the disease and the so-called cause of it. He knew that there is no cause but God, no name to be hallowed but God's name, no time but the eternal now. "Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity," he said (Luke 13:12). And the account continues, "Immediately she was made straight, and glorified God."

To those who may be troubled because of an illness that seems to have been of long duration, the comforting surety of the Christ, Truth, comes today as positively as it did to the sufferer of long ago. We learn in Christian Science that when the Christ is accepted in consciousness as "the divine manifestation of God, which comes to the flesh to destroy incarnate error" (Science and Health, p. 583), at that moment the healing begins to take place.

Indecision, fear, doubt, and pain disappear in the glory of the accepted Christ. There is no time involved. The Christ, Truth, fulfills its holy mission of purification and healing instantly and completely, and man appears more clearly as God's image and likeness, God's perfect workmanship.
