In 1933, because of racial persecutions,...

In 1933, because of racial persecutions, our family had to leave everything we had in Europe. We fled to France and from there we were helped to emigrate to Brazil.

In 1939, after we had become established in Brazil, people began to suggest to me that the same problem might arise there. In great fear I mentioned this to a dear friend, and the following Wednesday she took me to a testimony meeting in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist. I understood almost nothing; but I felt a change taking place in me. From that day on, I attended all the services but did not talk to anyone.

One Sunday the Second Reader invited me to come to her home the following Tuesday. She lived on a hill which I climbed weary and heavy-laden. This kind friend asked me what had led me to Christian Science. I told her what was worrying me, and she immediately replied, "God does not know racial discrimination, and He alone is true."
