After a talk with a Christian Science...

After a talk with a Christian Science practitioner, I was quickly healed of smoking, although I had been using tobacco for about thirty years. The healing of the use of liquor took more time, since there was a sense of sociability connected with it. However, when I finally could see that drinking did not help an individual to love God and also that refusing to drink could not really offend anyone, I was free.

Our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, states in Science and Health (p. 167), "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized." I am grateful for a healing which resulted from my taking a stand for Christian Science treatment rather than submitting to medical care and hospitalization.

The experience occurred when I was on a tour of overseas duty in government service. I became ill, and under the rules and regulations of the government, I was required to submit to a medical examination. The condition was diagnosed as a heart attack and a nervous breakdown. Upon being evacuated by military plane and arriving in the United States, I requested permission to enter a Christian Science nursing home for treatment.
