OUR PROPER IDENTITY

Christian Science has come to this age to free us from a mistaken concept of identity, the educated belief that we can properly identify ourselves with an organic sense of body. This Science shows us how to identify ourselves as spiritual idea, the image of Love, the incorporeal idea of divine perfection. The recognition of this fact, even in a degree, helps one prove his God-given dominion over the ills of the flesh.

The teachings of Christian Science make clear that the real selfhood of each of us is individually, specifically, and eternally identified with the one infinite compound embodiment of divine ideas. The Apostle Paul must have had a clear concept of man as spiritual embodiment when he declared (I Cor. 6:19), "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"

The man of God's creating, the true selfhood of each of us, embodies or reflects the one infinite consciousness, or divine Mind. Physically considered, so-called mortal man and body are one. Materially conceived, men embody the finite consciousness of mortal mind.
