ENLARGING OUR BORDERS

It is related in the Gospel of John that as Christ Jesus was teaching in the temple, the Jews said (7:15), "How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?" It is well to consider this during the current discussion of education, which has been the subject of exhaustive study and national interest.

Mrs. Eddy has supplied an answer to the above question. In Science and Health, she writes (p. 89): "Mind is not necessarily dependent upon educational processes. It possesses of itself all beauty and poetry, and the power of expressing them."

Jesus possessed abilities derived from divine Mind. Our Leader was a widely read woman, versed in history, literature, and art. To illustrate the scope of her reading, one need only turn to that column in the Christian Science Sentinel entitled "Mrs. Eddy Mentioned Them." These short biographies of persons referred to by Mrs. Eddy in her writings have appeared over a long period of time. The wide range of subjects reveals her keen memory, her familiarity with world affairs, and her knowledge of famous people.
