George Heinrich Gottlieb Jahr, 1800—1875

[Mentioned in Science and Health, pp. 152, 179, in Retrospection and Introspection, p. 33, and in Christian Healing, p. 12]

Jahr is closely identified with the history and development of homeopathy. His prolific writings made his name as well known in America as it was in Europe. He was such a brilliant scholar that he was offered a professorship upon the completion of his work at college. The same year he met Hahnemann, founder of homeopathy, who made it possible for him to study medicine at the University of Bonn. His record at the university was outstanding. After being private physician in two noble families he joined Hahnemann in Paris. Here he taught, wrote, and practiced for thirty years. Besides his medical works, he translated from the Hebrew into German verse the Psalms and the Book of Job. The Franco-Prussian War caused Jahr to retire to Belgium.
