GLORIOUS GLIMPSES OF TRUTH
One of the things for which Christian Scientists are most grateful is the spiritual illumination which Science brings to the Scriptures. It is a great joy for the student when, through his study and consequent growth in spiritual understanding, a Scriptural passage which may have seemed puzzling or obscure becomes clear.
The writer has had many such unfoldments through the years. One for which she is particularly grateful is the better understanding of the experience of Abraham when he was called upon to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac.
For centuries Abraham has been a symbol of faithfulness, complete trust in God, and obedience to Him. Our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, was versed in the Scriptures, and he recognized and cited Abraham's fidelity. He rebuked the Pharisees who boastfully claimed Abraham as their father but did not follow his example. "If ye were Abraham's children," Jesus said, "ye would do the works of Abraham" (John 8:39).
