SPECIFIC WORK FOR THE WORLD

Every experienced Christian Scientist is aware of the need to do daily metaphysical work for the world. To one just beginning the study of Christian Science, it may be explained that the term "metaphysical work" is used to designate spiritual, scientific, understanding prayer.

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, considered this work to be of such importance that she included in the Manual of The Mother Church the following By-Law (Art. VIII, Sect. 4): "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to pray each day: 'Thy kingdom come;' let the reign of divine Truth, Life, and Love be established in me, and rule out of me all sin; and may Thy Word enrich the affections of all mankind, and govern them!"

Mrs. Eddy makes many statements in her writings pertaining to the necessity of working for the world. One of these statements is to be found on page 29 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," where she says: "Christians must take arms against error at home and abroad. They must grapple with sin in themselves and in others, and continue this warfare until they have finished their course."
