With deep gratitude and reverence...
c
With deep gratitude and reverence I wish to testify to the many blessings my family and I have experienced in Christian Science. My attention was called to its teachings in 1931.
Before I learned of this Science I suffered for years from very severe headaches. Materia medica could do nothing for me. After I had learned of this wonderful truth, I never again suffered from headaches. They were completely forgotten until recently, when I was reminded of them, and then I realized that I certainly had reason for gratitude.
One day soon after I had learned of Christian Science, I suddenly had a hemorrhage. I could not ask for help from a practitioner, for at that time the public practice of Christian Science was prohibited by the government. So I relied solely on my own understanding of God and pondered these words from page 495 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling stead-fastly to God and His idea." I clung to these words throughout the night, and toward morning all was well.
Fear that the error might return tried repeatedly to force itself into my consciousness, but it was overcome with the angelic message, What the Christ has healed, is healed forever.
The healing has remained permanent all through the years. This experience has often been a beacon to me on the road heavenward. I have also been wonderfully protected in cases of accident and beautifully led in working out problems of supply.
I am very grateful for the unfoldment of spiritual understanding, enabling me to know that God, good, alone is ever present and all-powerful. In addition, I am deeply grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a Christian Science Society, in which I have the privilege of serving in the Sunday School.
This testimony would not be complete unless I remembered with gratitude our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, her self-sacrificing work for all mankind, and her inspired writings. Great gratitude is also due the practitioners, who are always ready patiently and lovingly to help us.—(Mrs.) Adelheid Kern, Bremen-Blumenthal, Germany.
