PROGRESS—SLOW OR FAST?

Christ Jesus had made his disciples fishers of men, but after their Master's crucifixion and Truth's apparent defeat on the cross, some of the disciples seemed lost and turned back to their nets.

All night the disciples had fished and caught nothing. Early in the morning a voice called from the shore, "Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find." Obedience brought an abundant catch. They saw their risen Lord! Peter plunged into the sea and swam for shore, but the others, mindful perhaps of their daily bread, "came in a little ship ... dragging the net with fishes." Among these later arrivals was the beloved disciple, John.

Did the Master commend Peter for swiftly forsaking his boat? Did he chide the others for more deliberate action? Neither praise nor blame, but a basic lesson in progressive discipleship greeted them.
