OUR HIGH GOAL

Christ Jesus set a high goal for his followers. When, according to Luke, the seventy whom he sent out on a healing mission "returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name," the Master said, "Rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven" (Luke 10:17, 20). Jesus did not lose sight of the purpose of his ministry: to reveal the kingdom of God, the spiritual state in which man is known as God's likeness and as completely governed by Him.

The way of healing through Christian Science is the way of proving spiritual perfection, not of attaining material ease. The benefits to flesh which come through Science are only proofs that God's kingdom has been glimpsed. The mortal sense is disappearing.

Such proofs are indispensable in scientific demonstration because they show that the human consciousness—and consequently the human body—has been brought under the control of God. And this procedure is one step out of the flesh, out of the delusion that man is material and subject to powers other than those of God.
