SCIENTIFIC DIAGNOSIS
In Christian Science, diagnosis has to do with self-knowledge and the mental condition of the one seeking health, not with the physical aspect of things.
The English word "diagnosis" has several definitions. One, "the art or act of recognizing disease from its symptoms," is the most familiar. Another one, "scientific determination; critical scrutiny or its resulting judgment," is less well known, but when looked at in the light of metaphysical interpretation, this definition is helpful.
The Christian Scientist, dealing with the understanding of substance as thought, can see no purpose in believing in the physical symptoms, states, and stages of disease since in actuality disease is mental.
