THE POWER OF LOVE

Love is the greatest and most powerful force in the world. God is Love, as the Bible declares, and His image and likeness, man, reflects divine power because he reflects Love. Spiritual love is not to be confused with its worldly counterfeit, which is changeable and devoid of true power.

Christian Science teaches us how to bring the power of divine Love into our lives and how to use it in our dealings with our fellow men. Christ Jesus is our guide. He demonstrated that love must be lived in order for one to reflect power. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 250), "Love cannot be a mere abstraction, or goodness without activity and power."

The most obvious place to begin the practice of love is in our homes and among associates in our daily activities. In any situation patience, forbearance, and good will bring tranquillity, which irritation, unkindness, and rebuffs would destroy. Common courtesy is one form of demonstrating love. Love gives one the power to speak fearlessly when it is necessary to uncover evil's hidden ways or to be silent when one is tempted to expose unnecessarily the faults of others.
