RADIO PROGRAM No. 245 - No Separation from God

Speaker: How many of us at one time or another have had the feeling that we are separated from God, perhaps a sense of there being a great gulf between God and man? Our guest today, Miss Jennifer Sounes, of London, England, found the way to bridge that seeming gulf.

Miss Sounes: Most of my life I was an atheist. As a young girl I had many questions about God, and either I received no answers or the answers just didn't satisfy me. I looked carefully into several religions, but I continued to believe that God just couldn't exist. And then when I saw all the suffering during the war years, life seemed more pointless than ever.

Finally I reached a stage where I was in absolute despair. I had an assortment of ailments for which I took great deal of medicine. I had no money, and I was living in a dingy basement room. I was suffering the effects of a severe nervous breakdown, and I had such serious eye trouble that I was told I would have to wear increasingly strong glasses. As a result of all this, I couldn't follow my profession as a theatrical director. I also did secretarial work and free-lance writing between engagements; but now my eyes were greatly troubled by the stage lights or any kind of close work. As I thought things over, I felt the time had come to end my life.
