RESURRECTION AND ASCENSION

Jesus' example in the garden of Gethsemane pointed the way of resurrection and ascension for all mankind. His momentous struggle was not to avoid a difficult human situation, for he said (Matt. 26: 53), "Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?" Rather, his purpose was to establish for all time the scientific nature of man.

In his Gethsemane experience, the Master exemplified the way out of fleshly material beliefs. His surrender to the will of God prepared him to demonstrate the dominion of the divine Mind over so-called mortal mind. His example was for the benefit of all who would heed his voice and follow his teachings.

Christian Science, in accordance with the words and works of Jesus, is again demonstrating the way out of deceptive human concepts. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy defines "resurrection" as (p. 593), "Spiritualization of thought; a new and higher idea of immortality, or spiritual existence; material belief yielding to spiritual understanding."
