One of the definitions of "philanthropy"...

One of the definitions of "philanthropy" is "love for mankind; good will to all men." To heal others of their suffering and to free them from mortal beliefs would therefore be philanthropy of the highest order. Such philanthropy was demonstrated to me some years ago by a loving practitioner, to whom I went for help when all seemed lost.

At the passing of a loved one, I was in despair not only at my loss and sense of loneliness, but also because I was almost destitute, owing to a dispute as to my inheritance rights. This situation changed me from a woman of assurance and courage into one who wept almost constantly and whose pride suffered because she had to accept monetary aid from friends.

One day when I was particularly distressed, a friend counseled me to see a Christian Science practitioner. The practitioner was a real philanthropist, for she gave to me generously of her patience and love. She assured me that my needs would be met if I would only rely on God for my daily supply. With her encouragement I began to read the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.
