After being invalided out of His Majesty's Forces in 1943, I returned home with neurosis and heart trouble. I had previously had a physical breakdown while I was a gunner in the Royal Artillery, and Army life in general did not agree with me.

Several visits to the family doctor and compliance with his recommendation to take different medicines proved of no use. I thought a great deal about the worthlessness of these medicines, which only caused me to abandon my faith in the doctor and in his medical prescriptions.

The dread and fear which accompanied my complaint became gradually unbearable, particularly at night time. I wondered what other remedy I could take that would give me relief from this awful fear. Then Christian Science came to my mind, and I made inquiries about it from an acquaintance. After a few satisfactory answers had been given to me, I attended my first Christian Science church service, where I was given a warm welcome and learned something of this religion of healing.
