ACCEPTING OUR RESPONSIBILITY

One's consciousness, Christian Science teaches, is the key to his experience. This fact presents great possibilities and also includes inherent and inescapable demands upon the individual. In Proverbs (23:7) we read that as a man "thinketh in his heart, so is he." And Jesus said in his Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5:7), "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."

Each one must face up to the responsibility for the content of his consciousness. As he steadfastly replaces the evil and mistaken beliefs of mortal thinking with the understanding of divine Science, he is working out his salvation under the loving direction of God, divine Principle.

In his healing ministry Jesus demonstrated Christ and showed that as men's thoughts were lifted to behold the allness of God, good, then their lives were liberated from evil, and their bodies were healed of disease. As the Christ enters the consciousness of anyone in need of healing, it renovates his thinking and, in turn, restores his body to normal wholeness and freedom. The Christ, Truth, the divine manifestation of God, is present today in Christian Science.
