"Ye cannot serve God and mammon"...

"Ye cannot serve God and mammon" (Matt. 6:24). For a long time this Bible verse had caused me much deep thinking, but not until I began the study of Christian Science did I feel I knew the real meaning.

Long before I became a student of this wonderful Science, I was speaking unkind things against it and saying mean things about its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. A friend who knew nothing of this attitude gave me a Sentinel, and I read it through, trying to locate some sentence I could find fault with. But I found in it the truth I was longing to know more about. I was especially impressed with a testimony given by one who had been healed of cancer.

Only a few days before, a kind doctor had told me I must be very careful about a small tumor, which had grown on my arm and which at times was very annoying. I was thinking of having it removed by surgery, but when I read the testimony in the Sentinel, I cried out, "Dear God, if You can heal a cancer, You can heal this tumor."
