UNIVERSAL LOVE, THE DIVINE WAY

The Israelites, through the centuries, gradually developed a religion which recognized more clearly than had any religion before Christianity that there is only one God. However, for some time they considered God to be their exclusive property, which made their religion nationalistic.

Christ Jesus preached the gospel of one Father for all, but mankind has found it hard to put Jesus' teaching into practice, particularly during times of national struggles, when each side claims divine help for itself. Christian Science overcomes this difficulty by showing that God is infinite Mind, universal Love, always available to all who turn to Him through spiritualized thought.

The carnal mind, or mortal mind, so called, is basically limiting and narrow. One's true progress is achieved only as he rises above the general limiting beliefs around him. Early in his career our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, said (Matt. 15:24), "I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But later he told his disciples (Mark 16:15), "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 150), "God is universal; confined to no spot, defined by no dogma, appropriated by no sect."
