In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy we find the statement (p. 16), "Only as we rise above all material sensuousness and sin, can we reach the heaven-born aspiration and spiritual consciousness, which is indicated in the Lord's Prayer and which instantaneously heals the sick." Several years ago, while I was a student at a university, I had occasion to prove the truth of this statement.

While enjoying myself at a picnic with a group of young people, I climbed over a fence and fell, twisting my ankle underneath me. I immediately declared the truth of man's oneness with God as His reflection and denied the possibility of accidents occurring in God's kingdom. No effects of the fall were noticed at the time, but I returned to my room in the evening barely able to walk on the foot.

The pain was so intense it was difficult to erase erroneous thoughts from my consciousness. By repeating earnestly each line of the Lord's Prayer, along with its spiritual interpretation which Mrs. Eddy gives on pages 16 and 17 of Science and Health, I began to realize more clearly than ever before the true meaning of the words in this prayer. The first line, "Our Father which art in heaven" (Matt. 6:9), helped me to see that I was not alone and without help, but that my Father-Mother God was with me every moment and that I could dwell only in harmony.
