Those Jointly Maintained

Jointly maintained Christian Science Reading Rooms are fulfilling a very useful and important service. In the larger cities where the maintenance of a Reading Room in the center of business activity might seem to be too big an undertaking for one church, several or all of the local branches can and do unite to operate such a room, blessing many in the community as well as their members.

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, states in Article XXI, Section 1, of the Manual of The Mother Church, "Each church of the Christian Science denomination shall have a Reading Room, though two or more churches may unite in having Reading Rooms, provided these rooms are well located."

Reports received in the Reading Room Division of The Mother Church indicate the important role played, not only by the staffs but also by the Reading Room committees, in these co-operative enterprises. In reporting to the membership of the participating churches, a librarian writes:
