ELECTION

When Samuel was sent to choose a king,The Lord required him not to measure worthBy human form, but by the offeringThe selfless heart could bring to bless the earth. He viewed the sons of Jesse, strong and bold,Till David came, a faithful sentinelWhen tending sheep. Then Samuel was told,"Arise, anoint him king of Israel."

Let us select the one to fill a placeWhose shepherd qualities of bravery,True wisdom, and humility will graceThe office with a Christlike constancy.Truth's rod and staff, defending thought, will keepThis one alert while shepherding his sheep.
