In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read (p.22): "Waking to Christ's demand, mortals experience suffering. This causes them, even as drowning men, to make vigorous efforts to save themselves; and through Christ's precious love these efforts are crowned with success." This expresses exactly how I felt when I began sincerely to study Christian Science.

The first healing we experienced was that of a bee sting just below my little girl's eye. I told her to turn to God for help, and when she did, every sign of the sting immediately disappeared.

One day another of our children had a car door slammed on her fingers. She instantly covered them so no one could see them, and I carried her in my arms a short distance from the car to quiet her and talk to her of God's love. She fell asleep in my arms, and I prayed, realizing that all was well because God cares for all of His children. Soon the little girl wakened. She reached for her shovel and pail and ran off gaily with the rest of the children. One could not tell which hand had been injured. I silently thanked God for another demonstration of His infinite care.
