Some time ago our little girl was feverish. I pondered the statement given by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in Science and Health (p. 413), "Mind regulates the condition of the stomach, bowels, and food, the temperature of children and of men, and matter does not." Also, I silently declared that the child was in reality created by God; therefore mortal mind had no right to say that she had a feverish condition. The next day she felt well, but a day later she had spots on her body, although they were so faint I hardly noticed them. Then came the thought that a contagious disease might be developing.

I called a Christian Science practitioner to help me overcome the belief that a disease could be contagious. Then I talked with our daughter, declaring that she was in the realm of Truth and therefore could not become a target for error. The next day the spots were gone.

I am very grateful that this evidence of a contagious disease went no further than the faint spots. As for the child's younger brother, it was a few weeks later that it dawned on me that I had not been in the least concerned about him and that he had manifested no difficulty.
