I cannot remember a time when...

I cannot remember a time when I did not take my problems and my joys to God, even though I had never had any Sunday School training and received no encouragement from those around me. God was my constant companion and counselor through rather a lonesome childhood.

When I was quite young I became ill with a kidney affliction which the doctors said was incurable. Every material means was exhausted, and I was told that I would carry this affliction as long as I lived. I loved the Bible, especially the accounts of Jesus' healings recorded in the four Gospels. Through the study of the Bible I caught a glimpse of Truth, and I was healed. My gratitude to God was boundless, but I was told by my minister's wife: "It just happened. Healings aren't performed that way any more." However, I knew my healing had come from God, and I held my gratitude close to my heart.

When I learned some ten years later that Christian Science heals as Jesus did, my joy knew no bounds, and I immediately began the study of it. About a year later I joined a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and a short time afterward I joined The Mother Church.
