IMMEDIATENESS

When I was growing up, the motto, "Do it now," was displayed in a conspicuous place in our home. The maxim served as an ever-present reminder to our household not to indulge procrastination, but rather to practice promptness in all activities. Through the succeeding years, conformity to the motto's demand for punctuality has proved of inestimable value to me in maintaining a full schedule of activity with ease and serenity.

An earnest study of the works of Christ Jesus shows that immediateness characterized all that he did. He did not countenance excuses or postponement. A word frequently associated with the Biblical accounts of Jesus' healing work is "immediately."

In the fifth chapter of Luke we read of the healing of leprosy. The afflicted man recognized the possibility of healing, for he declared, "Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean." Without a moment's hesitancy, the Master answered, "I will: be thou clean." And we read, "Immediately the leprosy departed from him."
