I wish to submit this testimony in heartfelt gratitude for Christian Science and in the hope that my experience may help and encourage those who feel they are passing through a difficult experience. In 1948, I lost the use of my left arm and leg, and I had to give up my employment. I was unable to overcome this problem myself; so I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner.

At this period I was living with my father, who was not a Christian Scientist, and he insisted that I should consult a physician. I was examined by an eminent neurologist, who suggested that I enter hospital for observation. I recalled that David, when about to do battle with Goliath, had refused the armor offered him by King Saul because he had not proved it; whereas he had proved the efficacy of his trust in God. Similarly, I saw that I could not accept medical treatment, and I refused to go to the hospital.

The following evening I attended a Christian Science lecture in a nearby town. I had considerable difficulty in getting to this lecture, and I hobbled into the hall on a crutch. The lecturer told us that there is only one Godhead and that the universe, including man, is harmoniously governed by divine Principle, Life, Truth, and Love. During the lecture the use of my leg was completely restored, and I walked out without the help of the crutch. The use of the arm was also restored within a short period.
