My introduction to the teachings of Christian Science came through the wife of my husband's employer. Her lovely Christian life was an inspiration to me. This friend gave my husband a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on the first Christmas after our marriage.

At first we understood but little of its teachings, since both of us had been reared in an orthodox faith. But I persevered in its study until I found that it disproved some of the beliefs taught me in childhood. Then I laid the book aside, thinking that it was not for me.

When facing the ordeal of a surgical operation to correct a neuralgic condition, I began reading Science and Health again. Three days before the operation was to have been performed, the healing came. My husband had gone to work in the morning, leaving me propped up in bed reading the textbook and other Christian Science literature left with me by the friend previously mentioned.
