TRUE EMANCIPATION

The history of mankind reveals a long struggle to gain freedom: freedom from tyranny, political oppression, disease, and want; and in a degree men have gained liberation from these enemies. The laws of most Christian countries guarantee their citizens certain fundamental rights, and there is a growing recognition of the dignity of man.

Through Christian Science one recognizes the greatest enemy to real freedom: bondage to false beliefs regarding God and man. In the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy sets forth one's inherent right to freedom and tells one how to achieve it. On page 225 she writes: "What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death? Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government. Truth makes man free."

The progress of mankind out of various material forms of slavery has been a very gradual process. Since the advent of Christian Science, which explains that man is the son of God and therefore subject only to the law of God, the student of this Science has been gaining dominion over the limiting beliefs of fear, disease, ignorance, and want.
