PUTTING OFF MATERIALITY AND PUTTING ON TRUTH

The major premise of Christianity is that God is Spirit and that He is the wholly good, eternal, and perfect creator of the universe. The teachings of Mary Baker Eddy concur wholly with the Biblical statement that man is the image and likeness of God, actually spiritual now and forever. The belief that man and the universe are material is a misconception of being, which Christ, God's eternal healing message to humanity, destroys and replaces with the recognition and demonstration of Spirit as the only existent substance.

Christian Science teaches mankind to deny reality to whatever is ungodlike in their experience, to put off the belief that matter is man's substance, and to put on the true, spiritual sense of being. It explains Christianity as taught and demonstrated by Christ Jesus; it heals the sick and the sinning and destroys the foundation of all evil.

The transforming activity of the Christ must take place in human consciousness in order that the true man of God's creating may appear. Paul gave this precept and promise to mankind (I Cor. 15:53, 54): "This corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory." Christian Science shows mankind how this command of Paul's can be and must be fulfilled.
