Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy...
Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was given to my husband and me as a wedding gift. I had such a wrong impression of Christian Science that this textbook was not read, but it was kept out of respect for the person who gave it to us. After five years a loved one who happened to read the book out of curiosity and then became a student of Christian Science asked me to read the textbook, and I did.
At this time I had been having trouble with a decayed and painful tooth. One day I had it pulled, and upon returning home from the dentist, I lay down and read from Science and Health. While I was reading, about two hours after the tooth had been extracted, the wound in my gum was instantaneously and completely healed. I realized that this healing could not have taken place unless there was truth in the book I had been reading. Then I read the statement on page 230: "If sickness is real, it belongs to immortality; if true, it is a part of Truth. Would you attempt with drugs, or without, to destroy a quality or condition of Truth? But if sickness and sin are illusions, the awakening from this mortal dream, or illusion, will bring us into health, holiness, and immortality." My full acceptance of the truth took place at that moment.
In the years since this experience many blessings and much growth in the understanding of God have taken place in our family. Whooping cough, mumps, colds, infection, ringworm, and effects of accidents are only a few of the instances of healing. Smoking has been overcome, and two painless childbirths have taken place.
