"I WRITE UNTO YOU, YOUNG MEN"

"I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one," declared John to the youth of his age (I John 2:13). His declaration might well have been addressed to the spiritually minded young men and women of today who are active in proving false the assumption that youth is necessarily immature, thoughtless, or insubordinate.

Another Christian apostle, Paul, gave this counsel to his youthful coworker, Timothy, which is also applicable today (I Tim. 4:12): "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

Immaturity and age are both mental impositions invented by the personal senses. Christian Science makes it clear that being exists at the standpoint of eternal manhood, in which time and matter play no part. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (Pref., p. ix), "There is an old age of theheart, and a youth that never grows old." Then she points out, "The fleeting freshness of youth, however, is not the evergreen of Soul."
