To Serve the Community Better

[Note: Extracts from reports prepared for the Reading Room Division]

Skokie, Illinois

For several years, our church had been contemplating a ground-floor Reading Room. Since the membership was not unanimous in support of such a move, the decision was made to stay in the second-floor quarters, to make them as attractive as possible, and to perfect all methods of procedure so that we should be worthy of the higher, progressive step. As we utilized and appreciated what we had, our activity increased to such an extent that we were literally "bursting at the seams."

The members of the ground-floor Reading Room committee gained new inspiration and impetus as the terms "place," "supply," "unity," and "unfoldment" were considered. It was decided to make inquiry about a vacancy on the main street directly across from the post office. The location of this store was very desirable because of the amount of traffic and continuous activity. It was found to be available. The proposition was presented to our board and thence to the membership at a meeting where it was unanimously approved.
