"BE INSTANT IN SEASON"

A good way to decide whether or not a thought is worthy to be entertained is to determine its origin. If God is the author, we know the thought is good. If it comes from an erring, mortal source, then is the time for us to obey Paul's advice (II Tim. 4:2), "Be instant in season, out of season."

Let us refuse to accept the ungodlike thought, and let us be ready to affirm the truth. When we do this with the absolute conviction that our reasoning is correct, the unrighteous thought will vanish into its native nothingness.

Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 390): "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin." On the next page she tells us: "Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result."
